Waukesha Mayor Jeff Scrima To Present Guinness World Record Certificate
“Most Runners Linked Together to Complete a Half-Marathon” Raises $25,000 for LifeStriders
Waukesha, Wisconsin – June 20, 2013 – Mayor Jeff Scrima led a team of 103 (including Fleet Feet Sports' Leah Schapiro and 7 others from the Fox Valley community) linked runners from start to finish at Waukesha’s Trailbreaker Run and helped set a Guinness World Record for “The Most Runners Linked Together to Complete a Half Marathon.” On Tuesday June 25th at 4:00 PM, Mayor Scrima will present the official Guinness World Record Certificate to LifeStriders’ representatives. The short presentation ceremony will be attended by LifeStriders’ clients, caregivers, volunteers, staff and some of the 103 runners on Team LifeStriders who combined to set the World Record.
Mayor Scrima stated, “The impact that LifeStriders has on those with special needs is incredible and it was a privilege to run with the team.”
Veronica Sosa Conley, Executive Vice President of LifeStriders, added, “I believe that LifeStriders and everyone who supports our mission represents the best of who we are. The families we serve and the outpouring of support we receive from volunteers and everyone who participated in the “Most Runners Linked Together to Complete a Half-Marathon” effort shows that caring must come with action and that healing begins for us all when we connect. The symbolism of having individuals linked together, taking steps to help people with special needs make their own personal strides, is representative of LifeStriders mission and the challenges that our families face. We are so thankful that this record was set and that the challenge and success will never be forgotten.”
The presentation ceremony will take place at the LifeStriders Therapeutic Riding Center located at 29667 Summit Ave S11 Waukesha, WI 53188.
